Varjak Paw Full Term Unit - Y4

What a book! What a unit. This has been one of my favourite units I have ever made. It follows the story of Varjak whilst including lots of literary features and lots of opportunities for children to write different types of text types. 

The Old Mill Suspense Full Unit - Y4

Pie Corbett's Old Mill story provides the catalyst for this unit which also ultilises DADWAV to allow children to learn how to write in a suspenseful way, building up to an independent piece. 

The Chocolate Factory Full Unit - Y4

This unit explores how to create vivid character portraits as well as developing knowledge of how newspaper reports are structured and written, all wrapped together with the main class text of: Charlie and the Choclate Factory written by Roald Dahl.

Myths Vs Legends - Y4

This unit explores play scripts and play script writing, as well as ultilisng sentence types and powerful adjectives to help improve the quality of children's writing, whilst also exploring mythical and legendary stories. 

Jungle Book Mini Unit - Y5/Y6

In this unit children learn all about how DADWAVERS can help to make them become better writers. The unit focuses on a class text of 'The Jungle Book' written by Rudyard Kipling. It is a great unit for children to explore a class text which isn't oo challenging, yet each child will have a chance to expand upon the abridged version of the story. 

HTTYD Mini Unit - Y4/Y5/Y6

In this non- chronological unit it ultilises the class text of 'How to train your Dragon' written by Cressida Cresswell. Children expand their knowledge and understanding of Viking mythology whilst improving their understanding of word classes, bossy verbs, sentence structures and how to write instructions. 

There's a Ghost in this House Mini Unit - Y4/Y5

This unit was put together for Book Week 2023. Children in my class had just moved into our new Primary Campus building and they thought there was something quite suspicious about our new learning spaces! 

The Journey Mini Unit - KS2

This unit was put together for our International Week which focussed on migration and how children can develop empathy towards others.
